Proverbs 31:13
January 13, 2012 • By Pastor Wendy Williams
13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. (KJV)
You have heard the saying, "A man’s work is from sun to sun, but a mother’s work is never done.” Every mother would probably say that this is a true statement. Whether a woman (wife/mother) works outside the home or is a full-time homemaker, her work is a never-ending task. Whether or not she has children, there is quite a lot for her to do. Today's verse says the virtuous (strong) woman "seeks” wool and flax, and works "willingly" with her hands. In Solomon's day, wool and flax were raw materials that could be used to make clothing and home furnishings. So, the virtuous (strong) woman willingly uses her hands to create a beautiful and comfortable home.
In today’s vernacular, you might say she is a comparison shopper, she is creative, and she's pretty good with her hands. She might like to sew, make crafts, make pottery, create artwork, or tend to a flower garden. These may sound like trivial activities to someone who does not understand her, but she is rare. And, the uncommon man who searches for the virtuous woman will appreciate her creativity and handiwork. She "seeks" ways to use her gifts and talents. Her hobbies/enterprises provide relaxation, enjoyment and fulfillment because she creatively expresses herself in and around the home, and she does so "willingly."
In today’s fast-paced society, she may look for raw materials with the use of technology. Perhaps she searches for the best deals and coupons from the convenience of her computer, and she shops online. At any rate, she gets up and gets busy. She doesn’t waste time gossiping on the telephone or watching the soap operas, talk shows and reality shows on television. The virtuous (strong) woman is BUSY!!! She adds "value” to her husband and to her household with the gift of her hands. And, you can’t put a price tag on that!!! Each of us has God-given gifts and talents that lay dormant on the inside of us. What creative gifts or talents has God given to you that you're not currently expressing? Seeking to express them by enhancing your surroundings, can be an open door to fulfillment. (Repeat the GEM FOR TODAY throughout the day)
GEM FOR TODAY: Father, You are the Creator of all. You created me in your image and in Your likeness. I receive Your gift of creative ability. I seek ways for creative expression, I work willingly with my hands, and I add value to my surroundings. (Men say) I AM A MAN OF VALOR, AND I VALUE GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! (Women say) I AM GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! In Jesus' Name, Amen
