Proverbs 31:7

7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. (KJV)
Verse 7 is a continuation from Verse 6. It lets us know that the problems people experienced in the Old Testament are the same problems people experience today. Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, "the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun." Solomon's mother is still warning her son against drinking alcohol.
Today, everyone either knows someone who is addicted (recovering from an addiction), or has had a personal addiction of their own. We may easily judge someone else so that we sooth our minds about our own afflictions (weaknesses). But, if you love sweets, or you've just gotta have your coffee in the morning, you are addicted to sugar and/or caffiene. How then, can you judge someone who is addicted to alcohol or drugs. The Bible tells us in Luke 6:37 "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven." That is why it's so important for each of us to hear the Voice of God for ourselves, and not for anyone else, as we continue on this journey of "self" discovery. We may be "strong in faith," able to quote Scripture and prophecy, but we weren't always that way. We're all in different stages of our own personal growth and development in the things of God. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 says, "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [love], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity [love], I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity [love], it profiteth me nothing."
Solomon and his mother lived long before Jesus came to the earth to redeem us from our sins. So when Solomon's mother says, "Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more," her statement was based on the knowledge she had at the time. Her only desire was to save her son from being utterly destroyed by too many women and too much wine. If she had experienced the love of Jesus Christ, she might not have been so callous in her thinking. Today, there are 12-Step rograms that help people "recover" from their addictions. Almighty God has provided Christ Jesus as His 1-Step Plan to "deliver" us from all our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:18, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" Let us become "drunk" in the Spirit and remember our misery no more. Praise God for who He is and for all the good He has done. He will never forsake you or leave you. (Repeat the GEM FOR TODAY several times throughout the day.)
